About Cal

Hi, I’m Cal from California.

How you introduce yourself when you first meet someone is the biggest leverage point for your entire career. One introduction to the right person can drastically change the trajectory of your life. Yet most people don’t invest time in working on their intro.

I’ve created a teachable, science based framework on how to introduce yourself that gets you noticed, makes you memorable, sparks curiosity, and creates genuine connection.

I left a career on Wall Street to figure out what actually makes people connect. Now I teach founders, executives, and teams the science of introducing themselves in a way that builds trust and gets remembered.

I’m a former leveraged buyouts investment banker, and I’ve spent over 20 years advising executives and teams on business strategy and critical decisions. I’ve personally mentored over 100 leaders. I taught my framework at UCLA’s Department of Communication, and I’m co-authoring academic research alongside a UCLA PhD researcher in the subjects of communication, introductions, human connection, social neuroscience, and first impressions.

The Science of Powerful Introductions: How to Be Remembered in an AI World

People decide within the first 60 seconds of meeting someone whether they are worth their time. That filter is running constantly with investors, executives, and buyers, and most introductions fail it without anyone realizing. The more AI handles our communication, the more the few unscripted human moments decide who gets taken seriously.

This keynote breaks down the science of introductions: why the brain filters fast, what earns consideration, and why this moment is the most undervalued leverage point in landing clients, striking partnerships, hiring, dealmaking, and so much more. Candid, practical, and built for the rooms your audience actually walks into.

  • How to introduce yourself in a way that is confident, natural, effortless, and creates a path for an easy conversation
  • The attributes of a powerful origin story so that you become memorable, interesting, and fun to talk to
  • A teachable science backed method to answer the famous question “What do you do?”
  • The ability to connect with anyone in the room
  • How to be remembered as the person everyone wants to follow up with

Available as 20, 45, or 60 minutes.

Beyond the base, participants complete their origin story and practice it out loud with live coaching and feedback, then work through conversation craft, connecting with the human instead of the job title, and the toolkit for being remembered after the room clears. Testimonials.

From the people who put Cal in front of their rooms.

I oversee all programming and talks for our community of founders, creators, and operators who don’t tolerate filler. Cal’s session on first impressions was the highest rated and most engaging by far. Our members still quote his framework in introductions and pitches.

Genuinely refreshing compared to many other speakers I’ve heard. There were so many ‘ah ha’ moments. You could see people in the room implementing what he was teaching in real time.

Frequently asked

Questions, answered.

Who is Cal Amir?
Cal Amir is a communication and connection expert who teaches the science of professional introductions. A former Wall Street investment banker with over 20 years advising executives and companies, he works with founders, leaders, and teams on how to introduce themselves and connect in high-stakes professional settings. Cal co-taught a class at UCLA’s Department of Communication, focusing on introductions and first impressions in his teachings. He is currently co-authoring academic research alongside a UCLA PhD researcher in the subjects of communication, introductions, human connection, social neuroscience, and first impressions.
What does Cal Amir speak about?
Cal speaks about introductions, first impressions, networking, and the craft of human connection. His central tenet is that people are often overlooked in the first minute, not because they lack substance, but because of a poor introduction. His signature methodology, The Layering Method, teaches professionals a repeatable structure for introducing themselves.
Why do people get overlooked when they introduce themselves?
People are often overlooked in the first minute, not because they lack substance, but because of a poor introduction. Most professionals have never been taught how to introduce themselves effectively, so they default to a job title or an inconsistent vague summary that gives the listener nothing to hold onto or ask about. The potential is there, but the delivery and substance fail.
Is there a science to making a good first impression?
Yes. There is a science behind how professionals can introduce themselves in a way that builds trust, creates rapport, and leaves a memorable impression. It draws on research in social neuroscience, memory, and interpersonal dynamics, including work on why names are harder to remember than professions, how people reduce uncertainty when meeting someone new, and how narrative structure affects recall and trust.
Why does a good introduction matter for your career?
Introducing yourself well is a crucial skill to develop because the right introduction to just one person can dramatically change someone’s entire career. A single introduction can lead to a client, an investor, a job, a partnership, or a mentor. The people whose attention is most valuable are also the ones who filter fastest, which means the opening moments carry disproportionate weight.
How do I book Cal Amir for an event?
You can book Cal Amir by filling out the inquiry form on this page or emailing bookings@introductionlab.com. Cal is available for keynotes, corporate workshops, group coaching, and university lectures.
What makes a strong first impression in a professional setting?
A strong first impression depends on the opening minute of meeting someone. The most effective introductions are accurate, humble, show your values, and leave the other person something to ask about. Vulnerability and establishing credibility early both make an introduction land harder, because they move the conversation toward trust faster.
